Rick in Japan
You will not believe some of the things I have done. I was a real dope most of my life. Just ask anyone who knew me! I've done stuff not many would ever think of doing. And for some reason I was also lucky enough to have come out smelling like a rose. I was childish, arrogant, conceited, lazy (I WAS goodlooking). Basically, it took me a long time to grow up. Truth is I'm probably not there yet. And now I live in Japan. Miwako and I run a small English teaching service which we started in 1994. In these podcasts I tell stories of my life in the different places I have lived: Michigan, Colorado, Hawaii and finally Japan.
IN A NUTSHELL...I was born 3/6/52 in Detroit, Mi, USA. I graduated college with a degree in Math/computer science from my second college. I CANNOT work with people. I was saved by John. Moved to Colorado 1978 then to Maui 1979 then to Japan 1984 leaving chaos in my wake. I married Miwako 1988. We have 2 daughters, 3 grandkids. We own and operate the RAM English service established 1994. My school + kindergarten and private lessons. At 74 still teaching and trying to make a living best I can.

I climbed Mt Fuji twice. This, my second time, was when I turned 60. That is the age called KANREKI here in Japan. It is a time to restart your life. (I also quit alcohol for the whole year.) This climb was different from my first ascent. Fortunately, both climbs ended safely.

Just by luck I got a job as the minister of weddings. It turned out to be a great parttime position for over one year. It was added income to our newly created RAM English Service and a wonderful gig. I could also practice my Japanese in front of a live audience even though it was always the same routine it was a good study for me. It is another example of how fortunate I have been over the years.

I saw this as a business opportunity if only I could s[peak Japanese. after an attempt at learning the language, I decided it would be best to come to Japan, learn Japanese then return to Maui. That was 40 years ago. I never went back.

One character i met on Maui was Preacher. He was NOT a preacher. He was built like Dirty Harry. I believe that many people on the Hawaiian Islands are fugitives of a sort. I think Preacher was one.

I understand that now in the USA one can purchase a license plate that has a whole lot of different combinations of letters and numbers. In Japan we only use numbers. However, numbers can be read as Japanese reading characters also. So, they tell a story just the same.
